Elizabeth J. Martin

Elizabeth J. Martin, age 83 died Monday September 26, 2011. She was born August 28, 1928 the daughter of Melvin and Nellie (Derr) Kopp. Joan attended Stitzer grade school and graduated from Fennimore High School in 1947. She married Brenton L. Martin on January 3, 1948 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Platteville. Together they farmed in Liberty Township. Joan was a member of the Oak Hill Climbers homemakers club and the Victory View 4-H club.

Surviving is her husband, Brenton, two sons: Wayne (Bea) and Merle( Tami) all of Lancaster; her grandchildren, Shawn (Rachael) Martin, Sara (Chad) Martensen and Matthew Martin. Her great-grandchildren: Samantha and Jesse Martin and Kayci Jo and Hanna Martensen; sisters: Betty Place and Joyce Reiter of Platteville, sisters-in-law Darlene Kopp and Dorothy Martin of Lancaster, and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother & father-in-law, Arthur and Elva (Ellis) Martin, brother, Richard Kopp, brothers-in-law, Milton Place, Earl Gehrke, Jack Reiter, and Clayton Martin

Funeral Service were held on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:00 am at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in the Farview Cemetery, Liberty Township. Friends called on Thursday, September 29, 2011, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 10:00am until time of service on Friday.

Grace Martin

Grace Lucinda (Osborn) Martin, age 89, of Epione Pavilion, Cuba City, went to Heaven on January 26, 2017. Grace was born on November 19, 1927 to Charles and Faith Osborn in Cataract, WI. She married Merwyn H. "Bud" Martin on July 17, 1946. She is survived by five children, Jeff (Dickeyville), Gail (Elk Mound), Tom (Rose) (Potosi), Joann Plear (Shullsburg), and Dick (Lancaster); ten grandchildren, Janet (Eric) Lambert , Dr. Barbara Knox (Bob) Schlotthauer, Emily Banker, Shawna Martin, Melissa (Jared) Foster, Allen Plear (Melia Evans), Sarah (Quenten) Van Raalte, Rachel Schmitt, Abraham Martin and John Martin; six great-grandchildren, Ryan Lambert, Josh Lambert, Rachel Banker, David Banker, Emma Schlotthauer, and Eve Schlotthauer; and her best friend Shirley Woolf Cowles. Grace was employed at Gray's Nursing Home for five years. She enjoyed family, traveling, playing cards, going to the casino and putting puzzles together.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Faith Osborn; her husband, Merwyn H. "Bud" Martin; her daughters, Anita Martin and Linda Knox; her sons-in-law, Clayton Knox and Tim Plear; and her siblings, Robert Osborn and Elizabeth Ann Corey.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00am at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in Cornelia, WI. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Cornelia. Family and friends called on Saturday from 9:00am until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials can be made to Grant County Hospice or the United Church of Christ in Cornelia. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is serving the family.

Jack A. Martin

Jack A. Martin, age 69, of Cassville, died on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at his home in Cassville. He was born on February 2, 1942, in Linden, the son of Edwin and Leeta (Johnston) Martin.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Hermitage Cemetery, Mt. Hope Township. Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is assisting the family.

Kenneth Martin

Kenneth E. Martin, age 87, died Sunday, October 30 at Bluff Haven Assisted Living Center in Prairie du Chien. He was born September 26, 1924 on Blakes Prairie between Bloomington and Bagley. The son of Roy and Ada (Harris) Martin, Kenneth always felt proud and privileged to grow up on the family homestead with his brothers, sister, and cousins; playing baseball, raising his family and farming the land that he loved. In April 1948, Kenneth and Arvis (Reukauf) were united in marriage at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church . The couple farmed near Bagley where they raised 6 children. In his youth, he loved playing baseball with his cousins and good friends. He also enjoyed bowling as time allowed him from his busy life as a young farmer and family man. Kenneth was a lifetime member of the Bloomington United Methodist church where he served in many positions as well as on the church board. He also served as a director of the Farmers Co-op Board, on the Grant Electric Board for a term, was a 4-H leader for the Blake's Prairie Bombers, and was president of the Grant County Pork Producers for several years.

His most treasured role in his life was being a loving husband, father, brother, and adoring grandfather. While his love of the land called Blake's Prairie never wavered, he dearly loved his family and dedicated his life to them. He was also an avid fan of sports, particularly the sports that his grandchildren played.

Survivors include his wife, Arvis Martin, Bagley; their six children: Marsha Martin, Rockford, IL; Brenda (Roger) Berg, Evansville; Randy (Debbie) Martin, Bagley; Ross (Sandy) Martin, Houston, MN; Rod (Susie) Martin, Brooklyn; Carolyn (Tom) Doering, Oregon; twelve grandchildren; Stephanie (Jay) Thomsen, Madison; Katie (Chris) Davis, Wisconsin Dells; Jacob Martin, La Crosse; Kara, Erin, and Kirk Martin, Bagley; Mariah, Taylor, and Anna Marie Martin, Brooklyn; Drew, Tyler, and Lexi Doering, Oregon; three step grandchildren; Jason, Lindsey, and Dustin Reggin; brother Richard Bud (Patty) Martin, Bloomington; sister-in-law LaVonne Martin, Shannon, IL; brother-in-law Jim Sass, Bloomington; and many caring cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Richard L. Martin

Richard L. Bud Martin, age 76, of Bloomington, died on Monday, June 18, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 5, 1935, in Bloomington, the son of Roy and Ada (Harris) Martin. On January 17, 1955, Bud was united in marriage to Patricia M. Gotto at St. Mary's Parsonage in Bloomington. He entered the United States Army in 1955 and was stationed in England where he acquired his association with the 803 engineer's battalion and attended many of their reunions. Bud farmed on the Martin Century Farm for thirty-five years. Bud had a great love for his wife, Pat, and their family. He enjoyed music, playing cards, and watching his Cubbies. Bud loved the beauty of a sunrise on the farm, a lilac in his pocket, the joys of family and friends, and a good conversation. He was a humble and optimistic man who cared deeply about his church. Bud and his family have cared for the Union Lumpkin Cemetery for forty years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Abraham Hickok American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Pat, Bloomington; their children: Jeff (Karen) Martin, Westlake, OH; Joyce (Bill) Albright, Milton; Bruce (Cherie) Martin, Onalaska; Barb (Tyson Barr) Mezera, Woodman; Leanne (Jim) Vogt, Oregon; Mike (Lori) Martin, Oregon; Andrea (Tom) Crubel, Bloomington; twenty-one grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, LaVonne Martin, Shannon, IL; Arvis Martin, Bagley; and a brother-in-law, Jim Sass, Bloomington; mother-in-law, Margaret Gotto, Lancaster.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith and Kenneth Martin; a sister, Doris Sass; and his father-in-law, Clarence Gotto.

Sharon L. Martin

Sharon L. Martin, age 58, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2009, at Orchard Manor, rural Lancaster, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on April 28, 1951, in Lancaster, the daughter of Carl and Genelda (Pierce) Martin. Sharon worked and attended workshops at the Hodan Center in Mineral Point and Southwest Opportunities Center in Lancaster. She enjoyed bowling, Special Olympics and attending Badger Camp. Sharon also loved to cut out coupons, collecting key chains and mugs. She had attended Grace Lutheran Church in East Dubuque, IL.

Sharon is survived by her mother, Genelda Krafjack, Lancaster; three sisters and one brother: Shirley (Doug) Orr, Prairie du Sac, Connie (Danny) Hamilton, Albuquerque, NM, Dyke (Joan) Martin, Hazel Green and Patty (fiance, Phil Beckman) Kehoe, Dubuque, IA; two half-sisters and one half-brother: Terri (Ronald) Abing, Lancaster, Kim (Chuck Abing) Martin, Lancaster and Allen (Stacey) Martin, Mt. Hope; her dog, Pee Wee; many loving aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl; her step-father, Richard "daddy" Krafjack; her grandparents; her brother-in-law, Rudy Trujillo and an uncle, Clarence Stoney.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 19, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Andrew Oppedahl officiating. Burial was held in the Cassville Cemetery. Friends called on Monday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Sharon L. Martin memorial fund has been established.

Theodora M. Martin

Theodora M. Sis Martin, age 96, of Cassville, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014, at ManorCare in Platteville. She was born on April 8, 1918, in Glen Haven, the daughter of William and Amelia (Hampton) Vogt. Theodora graduated from Cassville High School. She married Buford E. Martin on June 6, 1936, in Galena, IL. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1955. Theodora worked at the former Klindt Grocery Store and later at Rapid Die and Molding. She was an avid Brewers fan and enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing cards and bowling.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Rita) and David Martin; nine grandchildren: Lisa (Ricky) Halverson; Jill, Keri, and Kevin (Sue) Hanger; Robin, Robert II (Mary) and Rory (Chona) Martin; Shelley (Brian) Meier; Ann Martin; ten great-grandchildren and one on the way; a great-great granddaughter; a sister, Helen Patcle; two sisters-in-law, Carol and Mary Ann Vogt.

In addition to her husband, Buford, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna (George) Hanger; a grandson, Mark Hanger; her brothers, Bob, Bill (Kay), Patrick, Raymond, and Jerry Vogt; a sister, Geraldine (Harold) Morley; two brothers-in-law, Don Kauffman and Frank Patcle.

Gerald Mayne

Gerald William Mayne, age 86, of Beetown, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 17, 1930, in Burton, the son of Orlo and Lillian (Allbee) Mayne. Gerald entered the United States Marine Corps. in 1952 and served his country for two years stationed in Japan. He met and married Iona E. "Sis" Duncan on November 15, 1954. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Beetown and raised six children. Gerald enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards, camping, hunting and fishing. He dearly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Iona; their six children: Marty (Julie) Mayne, McGregor, IA; Melinda (Bruce) Taylor, Mineral Point; Patricia (Tom) Carroll, Lancaster; Ricky (Sue) Mayne, Bloomington; Ronny (Lisa) Mayne, Wisconsin Rapids; Debbie (Walt) Taylor, Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way; one brother: Burnell (Grace) Mayne, Beetown; sisters-in-law: Leone Mayne, Cassville; Shirley Duncan, Lancaster; a brother-in-law, Denny (Lillian "Bid") Duncan, Beetown; other relatives and many friends.

Iona "Sis" Mayne

Iona Elizabeth "Sis" Mayne, age 83, of Beetown left this earth on January 29, 2017, to go dance with the love of her life Gerald William Mayne, who preceded her in death on January 6, 2017. She was born on July 24, 1933, in Glen Haven, the daughter of Jeff and Elsie (Skinner) Duncan. Iona graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951. On November 15, 1954, she was united in marriage to Gerald Mayne. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Beetown and raised six children. Sis enjoyed camping, playing cards, crocheting, traveling and cooking. She dearly loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her six children: Marty (Julie) Mayne, McGregor, IA; Melinda (Bruce) Taylor, Mineral Point; Patricia (Tom) Carroll, Lancaster; Ricky (Sue) Mayne, Bloomington; Ronny (Lisa) Mayne, Wisconsin Rapids; Debbie (Walt) Taylor, Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way; her brother, Dennis (Lillian "Bid") Duncan, Beetown; sisters-in-law, Shirley Duncan, Lancaster and Leone Mayne, Cassville; brother-in-law, Burnell (Grace) Mayne, Beetown; other relatives and many friends.

Sylvan Mayne

Sylvan J. Mayne, age 90, of Cassville, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. He was born on July 4, 1925, in rural Burton, the son of Orlo and Lillian (Albee) Mayne. Sylvan proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He married Alice "Leone" Ames on November 15, 1946. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Sylvan and Leone farmed in the Beetown area early in their marriage before moving to Cassville in 1959 when he began working for Wisconsin Power & Light Company-Nelson Dewey plant. He took pride in his work every day up until his retirement in 1988. Sylvan was a kind and loving man. He enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin and in Florida where he and Leone spent their winters for 22 years. They made so many special friends there. Summers were a favorite time of year because two of Sylvan's favorite things were watching his Atlanta Braves play baseball and working in his garden. He was most proud of his beautiful sweet tomatoes. Sylvan was honored and humbled to join other WWII veterans traveling to Washington, DC on the Badger Honor Flight in May 2013. He was a member of the Abraham Hickock Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington.

Sylvan is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Alice "Leone", his children: Charlene (Jim) Cadwell, Portage, their daughter Kristin (Scott) Nash, daughter-in-law, Susan Porter-Cadwell; son, Dallas, McFarland, his partner, Suzanne Budnar, his sons Craig and Joshua; Renee (Dan) Braun, Middleton, their children, Ben and Clint Gehde, Shannon Braun, Tracey Junkin and Erika Braun; and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Burnell (Grace), Beetown and Gerald (Sis), Lancaster; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Cecil, a sister, Darlene and a grandson, Scott.

Julia M. McCabe

Julia M. (Vondran) McCabe, age 102, of Platteville, WI, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Southwest Healthcare Center Nursing Home in Cuba City, WI.

Julia was born on May 15, 1910 in Dickeyville , WI , a daughter of Carl and Mary (Lange) Vondran. She married Joseph I. McCabe on June 14, 1927, in Hazel Green, WI.

Julia is survived by two sons, Clifford and Gerald (Connie) McCabe, both of Platteville; a daughter, Arlene VanNatta of Platteville; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1997; her parents; 2 sisters; 4 brothers; a son in infancy, Joseph; son-in-law, Verlin VanNatta; daughter-in-law, Beverly McCabe; grandson-in-law, William Bourassa; and a great-great grandchild, Jackson Kamps.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Platteville, with Fr. Faustino Ruiz celebrating the Mass. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Platteville. Visitation was from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, May 25, 2012, at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville, a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m., and one hour prior to service Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a Julia McCabe Memorial Fund has been established.

Mary Beth McCann

Mary Beth McCann, age 50, of Potosi, died on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at her home. She was born on April 13, 1960, in Viroqua, the daughter of Charlie and Margaret (Dorsey) McCann. She was the youngest of ten children. She was a beloved mother and grandmother. Mary Beth lived in Potosi with her fiance, Sam. With an avid love for animals, their farm quickly grew as did their family and love for one another. Her desire was always to help people and always be there as a shoulder to cry on. Mary Beth graduated from Southwest Technical College as a CNA in May 2010. Sadly, her illness took her before she was able to use her abilities to their full potential. As for the lives of those she touched, we will forever be grateful and will always hold a special place for her in our hearts. Mary Beth will be missed, but not forgotten.

Survivors include her daughter, Samantha and grandson, Charlie; her fiance, Sam Reynolds and his daughters, Rachael and Andrea; her sister, Carolyn, and her bothers: Pat, Nub, Bill, Tim, Joe, Mike and Tom.

A Celebration of Life was held on Friday, July 2, 2010, from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Sim's Funeral Home, 106 S. 4^th Street, Reedstown, WI. Burial will be at a later date. Burnell McCartney

Burnell McCartney, age 84, passed away on January 9, 2015, at the Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein, IA. He was born on May 20, 1930, to Frank and Ethel (Bisbach) McCartney. Burnell served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 until 1952. He worked for American Family Life Insurance and the University of Wisconsin at Madison as a custodian. Burnell enjoyed fishing, craft making and working with beads, playing cards and shooting pool.

Survivors include his brothers: Douglas (Shirley) McCartney, Livingston; Delmar McCartney, Stoughton; Cletus (Charlene) McCartney, Oregon; sisters: Joetta Siegwarth, Clinton, IA; Joyce Yoeman, Potosi; a sister-in-law, Wilma McCartney, Lancaster; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Burnell was preceded in death by his brothers: Gerald and Robert McCartney; sister, Imogene Ehrler; two infant sisters: Ardith and Bernice; brothers-in-law: Harold Ehrler, Marlin Siegwarth and Ralph Kopp.

Patricia McCartney

Patricia Mary McCartney, age 85, of Baraboo, formerly of Tennyson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 22, 1931, in Tennyson, the daughter of Edward and Ina (Reed) Stohlmeyer. Patricia spent the last forty-four years with the love of her life, Richard Slater. She dearly loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Patricia also enjoyed many hours of reading, putting puzzles together, playing cards, bingo, and embroidery.

Survivors include the love of her life, Richard Slater, Baraboo; daughters: Shirley Kilby (Donald), Richland Center; Carol (Bernie) Disch, Dickeyville; Linda Kitto, Baraboo; Jeanette Kotte, Muscoda; Mary McCartney (Bill), Baraboo; step-children: Laura Paukstat, Sun Prairie; Shirley (Jeremy) Parks, Baraboo; Roger Slater, Baraboo; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Cahill, Dubuque, IA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Susan M. McCartney

Susan M. (Huser) McCartney, age 56, of Onalaska, formerly of Bagley, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2010, at Mulder Health Care Center in West Salem. She was born on July 6, 1953, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Lawrence and Geraldine (Stram) Huser. Susan attended grade school in Bagley, St. Mary's Academy in Prairie du Chien and graduated from West Grant High School in May of 1971. On September 18, 1971, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Harry E. McCartney at St. John's Catholic Church in Patch Grove. To this union, three little angels were born, Scott (1973), Yvette (Oct. 9-Oct. 10 1974), and Regina (June 7, 1976 - August 1976). She became the mother of a special little boy from South Korea named Christopher Hwan in 1985. Sue loved life and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She volunteered at LaCrosse Lutheran and worked at Ray-O-Vac in Fennimore and McDonald's in Onalaska until her illness prevented her activities.

Survivors include her husband, Harry McCartney, Onalaska; their son, Christopher (Jenny) McCartney, LaCrosse; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Kayli; her step-mother, Mary Metcalfe Huser, Bloomington; sisters-in-law: Raleen (Fay) Schnitzler, Bagley; Laurayne (Lonny) Fischer, Boscobel; Jolinda (Robert) Waterman, Boscobel; Norma (Kevin) Weidemann, Prairie du Chien; Susan McCartney, Mt. Hope; brother-in-law, Vernon McCartney, Osseo; several nieces and nephews; her uncles: Gerald (Lorraine) Stram, Clifford (Barb) Stram, Clem (Jackie) Stram, all of Prairie du Chien; her aunts: Marilyn (Joe) Huser, Bagley; Helen Huser-French, Green Bay; two step-brothers and a step-sister: Henry Huser, formerly of Bagley; William Huser, Prairie du Chien; and Mary Huser, formerly of Bagley.

Susan was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, three children: Scott, Yvette, and Regina, and her mother and father-in-law, Vernon and Leona McCartney.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Patch Grove with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was at a later date. Family and friends called on Monday, April 5, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. LaVern McClain

LaVern McClain, 91, of rural Cornelia, died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at his home.

Services were at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Cornelia United Church of Christ, Cornelia, with Rev. Catherine Carlson presiding. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery, Cornelia. Family and friends were welcomed from 1:00 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church.

LaVern was born on January 15, 1917, on the family farm in rural Potosi, son of Arch and Ida Elizabeth (Kraiser) McClain. He married Ruth Marian McPherson on September 23, 1939 and remained on their rural Cornelia farm to the present.

LaVern attended Sunnybrook Country School, graduated from Platteville High School, Platteville State Teachers College and taught public school for two years. Because of his love of the outdoors he then took up farming. He was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ, Cornelia. LaVern was an outfielder for the Cornelia softball team, a member of the Cornelia bowling team, and pit crewmember for the family racing team. For 50 years LaVern served as clerk for Paris Township.

Two infant brothers, his brother George, two sisters, Violet Langkamp and Marie Wunderlin, preceded LaVern in death.

Surviving family include his wife Marian; son Bruce and (Sue) of Saint Peter, MN; three grandchildren, Michael (Nancy) of Mankato, MN, Lisa (Maynard) Manthe of Mankato, David (Marie) of Potosi, and seven great-grandchildren; and brother Harold of Potosi.

Ruth M. McClain

Ruth Marian McClain, age 95, of Platteville, died Thursday, August 28, 2014, at the Southwest Health Center in Platteville.

Marian was born Ruth Marian McPherson on September 17, 1918 in Platteville,

Wisconsin, a daughter of Arthur & Orpha (Gillian) McPherson. Marian attended Cornelia grade school through eighth grade, graduated from Platteville High School and Platteville State Teachers College. She taught in the public grade schools of Casper School, Boomer School, Maple Glen School, Vondra School, and O. E. Gray School. Her early teaching was in rural one-room schools with first through eighth grades. She then became a Grant County Social Worker until retirement. Marian was a lifelong member of the Mount Zion United Church of Christ in Cornelia, Wisconsin.

Marian enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, morel hunting, garage sales, picnics in the pasture, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marian is survived by her son, Bruce (Sue) of St. Peter, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Michael (Nancy) of Mankato, Minnesota, Lisa (Maynard) Manthe also of Mankato, and David (Marie) of Potosi, Wisconsin; and eight great grandchildren, James and Daniel McClain, Benjamin, Jessa, Nicholas Manthe, and Tyler, Zachary, & Collin McClain.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, LaVern McClain, who passed away on February 2, 2008; her parents; her sisters, Maudie, Jenny, Gretta (Knox), Dorothy (McClain), Lou Ella (Withrow Felderman); and her brothers, Arthur Lee and Clifford McPherson.

Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Mt. Zion UCC in Cornelia, with Rev. Zayna Thompson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Friends called one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Platteville is assisting the family.

Lance C. McCracken

Captain Lance C. McCracken, age 62, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013, at his home in Lancaster. He was born on January 9, 1951, in East St. Louis, IL, the son of Stanton and Meldora (Beers) McCracken. Lance graduated from Belleville Township High School West in 1969. On November 8, 1972, Lance was united in marriage to Lila West in Belleville. He was employed on the western rivers as Captain for thirty-three years. He was a hard worker and always went where the work was. Lance and Lila moved to Wisconsin in 1989. He enjoyed fixing up and riding motorcycles, fishing, and watching the humming birds. Lance also enjoyed watching football. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and attending their activities.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lila, Lancaster; their children: Corey (Natasha) McCracken, Montfort; Kelly (Caleb) Gieseke, Fennimore; Jeremy (Tammy Rosenbaum) McCracken, Lancaster; his mother, Meldora Layton, Waterloo, IL; seven grandchildren: Ethan, Brandon, Dylan, Hannah, Skyler, Sarah, and Breanna; other relatives, cousins and friends.

In addition to his father, Stanton, Lance was preceded in death by a brother, Michael McCracken.

Deborah McDonald

Deborah Dee Dee K. McDonald, age 60, of Potosi, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014, at her residence. She was born on March 9, 1954, the daughter of Harold and Shirley (Leibfried) Blindert. Dee Dee graduated from Potosi High School. On October 23, 1971, she was united in marriage to John Jack E. McDonald at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. Dee Dee was employed at Rapid Die and Molding in Cassville for over twenty years. She enjoyed boating, camping, being outdoors, and wintering in Texas. Dee Dee dearly loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Jack; daughter, Nichol McDonald and her children, Sabrina and Tucker Leibfried; her son, Brent (Tina) McDonald, and their children, Jade and Asiah; her siblings: Dan, Kevin (Bob Cheney) Blindert, Karen Peach Murphy, Chris (Jeff) Frederick; her father, Harold Blindert; a sister-in-law, Janice Blindert; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley, and her brother, Dean.

George K. McFall

George K. McFall, age 92, of Platteville, WI, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Manor Care Healthcare Services in Platteville. George was born on February 2, 1921 in Platteville, a son of Elwood and Eunice (Gollmer) McFall.

George graduated from Platteville High School in 1939 and volunteered for the Army Air Corps on December 30, 1941 with the dream of learning to fly. He earned his silver wings and officer commission on June 22, 1943 and was assigned as a B-17 pilot, stationed at the 8^th Air Force base in Knettishall, England. He piloted the Heaven Can Wait until it was shot down and he became a prisoner of war. After 13 months in captivity he returned home to Platteville, where he married Elaine Bride at St. Marys Catholic Church on June 25, 1946. He graduated from the Platteville School of Mines in 1948 and from the Rolla School of Mines and Metallurgy in 1950. He and his wife moved to Rockford, Il where he worked as a metallurgist for 34 years while helping to raise six children. He returned home to Platteville in 2000. He enjoyed birding, tinkering in his workshop and going on adventures with his family.

George is survived by six children, Linda (Steven) Hall of Loves Park, IL, Mary (Leo) Shusta of Tucson, AZ, George Jr. (Marlys) of Carol Stream, IL, Donald (Becky) of Williamsville, IL, Dennis of Rockford, IL, & Ellen McFall of Platteville; thirteen grandchildren, Shawn, Daniel, Michael, Jason, Brenda, Ryan, Kristina, George W., John, Kate, Will, Robert, & Betsy; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Douglas of Carmi, IL; a sister, Margaret Sigurdson of Minden, NE; and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine in 2007; his parents; three brothers, Lyle, Dale, & Robert; and two sisters, Gladys Brown & Dorothy Zart.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 am on Monday, June 3, 2013 at St. Marys Catholic Church, Platteville, with Fr. Faustino Ruiz officiating. Burial with military honors was in Calvary Cemetery in Platteville. Friends called from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home, 100 Park Place, Platteville, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Joseph E. McKeen, Jr.

Joseph E. Buddy McKeen Jr., age 73, of Bloomington died on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at his home in Bloomington. He was born on February 14, 1935 in Deming, New Mexico, the son of Joseph E. and Ruth (Slover) McKeen. He married Veronica Murphy on November 10, 1973, and they resided in Lakewood California where he went to work and retired from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in 2000. They spent 15 years traveling and working inAsia before he retired in 2000 to Carlsbad, New Mexico.

They moved to Bloomington in 2004 to be nearer their youngest daughter Virginia (James) Neeley and their family.

Surviving are his wife Veronica, his two step daughters, Virginia (James) Neeley of Bloomington and Michelle Wilhelm of Elgin, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington on September 03, 2008, at 6:00 PM with Father Bart Timmerman officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Veronica T. McKeen

Veronica Theresa McKeen, age 71, of Bloomington, passed away at Orchard Manor Nursing Home on March 14, 2010. She had been suffering from Lou Gehrigs disease and finally was released to heaven to be free of the chains placed on her body. Veronica was born on May 6, 1938, in Queens, New York, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Graham) Murphy. She attended Catholic School in Queens. Veronica loved the west and she loved to travel. Her first venture was when she ran away from home at age 16 and she was found at Churchill Downs race track in Kentucky. She then moved to Arizona at 18 where she actually worked on a cattle ranch as a farm hand and went on real round ups. She also served in the Marine Corps Reserve as a young woman in San Diego, California. She had a massive stroke at 25 years old and re-taught herself to do everything from talking to walking. She was able to travel the world with her second husband, Joseph, when they lived in Asia for 15 years. She also had one very important best friend that was there for her through everything including her last battle named Kay Brubaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Virginia (James) Neeley of Bloomington, Wisconsin and Michelle Wilhelm of Pflugerville, TX. She has 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (12^th one on the way).She had a niece, Virginia Shively from Florida that was more like a sister and life long friend as well. She also has much family, sister-in-laws,nieces,nephews and one brother, Kevin Murphy, in Long Island, NewYork.

Her husband Joseph E. McKeen Jr. passed away in August of 2008. She had 4 brothers and 2 sisters, 5 of which preceded her in death.

She had a spirit unmatched by anyone or anything and will be missed more than words can say by all who knew and loved her.She was a very incredible woman and was very much loved by her family and VERY well taken care of by the staff at Orchard Manor. Kathleen McKillip

Kathleen L. McKillip, age 86, of Cassville, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. She was born on February 1, 1928, in Iowa, the daughter of Alphonse and Catherine (Cleary) Schwendinger. Kathleen was employed at Oscar Meyer in Dubuque. On February 21, 1950, she was united in marriage to John McKillip in Prairie du Chien. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Crawford County. Kathleen enjoyed going to garage sales, gambling, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Kathleen was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children: Patricia (Karl) Johnson, Alaska; Linda (Harley) Clark, Boscobel; Sharon, Texas; Diane (Darrel) Wood, Florida; Mike (Sheila) McKillip, Potosi; Paul (Mary Hankemeier) McKillip, Louisiana; Kathryn McKillip, Boscobel; eleven grandchildren: Christine, Joseph, John, Adam, Matthew, Zachary, Steven, Brooke, Andrew, Connor, and Delany; great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters: Virginia McGovern, Missouri; Donald Schwendinger, Seneca; Rosemary (Roy) Wydert, Winthrop, IA; John (Jean) Schwendinger, Dubuque, IA; James Schwendinger, Cuba City; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; her brothers and sister: Robert Schwendinger, Anthony Schwendinger and Marjorie Sauegling; and a grandson, Donovan.

George McKinney

George Willis McKinney, age 81, of rural Bagley, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Orchard Manor in Lancaster. He was born on June 5, 1929, in Patch Grove Township, the son of Boyd and Zelda (Willis) McKinney. George graduated from Patch Grove High School in 1947. On February 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Veronica Vopelak at St. Johns Catholic Church, Prairie du Chien. Together they farmed near Bagley. To this union, three children were born: Michael, Roger and Janelle. Veronica died suddenly of an aneurysm on May 13, 1977, at age 47.

Georges era of farming spanned more than seventy years, starting as a little boy helping his dad work with horses, to buying the home farm in 1956 and adding adjacent land as it became available. In 1977, George, Michael, and Roger formed the McKinney Farms Corporation, and continued to work the family farm. They received awards and recognition for the Quality of Milk and for Outstanding Work in Soil and Water Conservation.

George was a longtime member of St. Johns Catholic Church, Patch Grove, serving in various offices. He was an elected officer on the AMPI Board and a director for the Grant-Crawford Co-Op. He also served sixteen years as a trustee on the Wyalusing Township Board. On October 26, 1979, George and Lillian (Fralick) Schnering were united in marriage at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. They recently celebrated their 31^st Wedding Anniversary.

Everyone who knew George will remember his good natured personality, his ability to think things through, and to know exactly how each job should be done, his love for card playing, music, dancing and square dancing. For several years, George and Lillian enjoyed spending the winter months in southern Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian McKinney; children: Michael (Donna) McKinney; Roger (Judy) McKinney, all of Bagley; Janelle (Greg) Crubel, Bloomington; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Carol Carroll; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary McKinney, Rockford, IL; Phyllis (Roger) Osterhaus, Bloomington; Edward (Judy) Vopelak, Janesville; Richard (Margaret) Vopelak, North Carolina; nieces and nephews. He is further survived by step-children: Richard (Carol) Schnering, Roger (Brenda) Schnering, all of Cassville; Donald (Vicky) Schnering, Lehr, ND; step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Veronica, George was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth, his sister, Myrna McKinney Welsh; brothers-in-law: Donald Welsh, Charles Red Carroll, Edward, Lawrence, Robert, and Floyd Bud Fralick; sisters-in-law: Elsie Drew and Geneva Picha.

Marie McNamara

Marie Z. McNamara, age 88, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Reverend John Sasse officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Family and friends called on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Marie was born on January 22, 1927, to Anton and Rakela (Bruketa) Kruzich. She graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1944 at Mystic High School, Mystic, IA. Marie attended nursing school at St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Ottumwa, IA, and then began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse. She worked for Medical Associates in Dubuque, IA, where she was Dr. Sharpe's nurse for over 20 years.

Marie married James P. Heying on April 15, 1950, at Nativity Catholic Church in Dubuque, IA. Jim preceded her in death on October 3, 1972. She married Edward J. McNamara on October 6, 1976, at Nativity Catholic Church in Dubuque, IA. Ed preceded her in death on December 24, 2011.

Marie was a caring person who enjoyed life, especially boating and camping on the river with Jim and the years she and Ed lived in Arizona during retirement. Marie took very good care of our father, especially in his later years and for that we are forever grateful.

Survivors include her niece, Suzanne (Jim) Roth, Ankeny, IA; a nephew, Dr. John (Luann) Maletta, Des Moines, IA; her stepchildren: Bob (Jane) McNamara, Phoenix, AZ; Noreen (Dan) Welte, Littleton, CO; Patrick (Connie) McNamara, Baraboo; John (Rose) McNamara, Lancaster; Mary (John) Pipal, Dodgeville; step grandchildren: Catherine (Nick) Cubick, Michael (Jill) McNamara, Ellen (Marcus) DeVere, Elizabeth McNamara, Brendan Pipal, Sara McNamara and Ryan McNamara; step great-grandchildren: Jack and Nora Cubick and Oliver McNamara; a brother-in-law, Frank (Beverly) McNamara, Fitchburg; lifelong good friend, Darlene Kaufmann, Dubuque, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ida Maletta; half-brother, Tom Kruzich; and half-sister, Jennie Susic.

Jeffrey J. McPhail, age 38, of Rewey, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 11, 2010 in Rewey. He was born on March 11, 1972 in Dubuque , Iowa, the son of Douglas and Kathleen (Mask) McPhail. Jeff worked as a self-employed contractor.

Jeff lived larger than life. He liked the outdoors, music, cooking and eating. Jeff loved his family, especially his daughters, grandson, and nephews, who were his godsons and his dog, Rocky.

Jeff is survived by his parents: Doug and Kathie McPhail, Platteville; two daughters: Krystal Knox and Casey Ley; his grandson, Brayden Knox; his sister, Jennifer McPhail and her son, Wyatt King and his brother, Andrew and his son, Miles Hunter McPhail, both of Platteville; his girlfriend, Michelle Kemnitzer, Rewey; mans best friend, Rocky Rey McPhail; six aunts and uncles: Bob Mask, Santa Barbara, CA; Mike Mask, Las Vegas, NV; Bill (Anne) Mask, St. Paul, MN; Jane (Bob) Fowler, Platteville; Mike (Sandy) Willis, Platteville; and Clifford McCabe, Platteville; many cousins and friends.

Suzanne L. Meir

Suzanne Suzie L. Meir, age 76, of rural Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at home after a year long battle with brain cancer. She was born March 18, 1933, the daughter of Leon Ole and Pauline Polly (Grant) Loy in Annaton, WI. Suzie married Frank A. Meir on September 12, 1952 at the Methodist Church in Livingston. She farmed her entire life. She also worked off the farm at the Loudspeaker Component, Pine Grove Motel, IGA Bakery and McDonalds until retirement. Suzie had many interests and gardening being the one she continued until this past year.

Suzie is survived by her eight children: Laura, Barbara, Rose, Frank, John Meir all of Lancaster; Robert Meir, Boscobel, Diane Meir, Stewartville, MN and Ralph (Anna Davey) Meir, Superior, WI; her two brothers and two sisters: Helen Thompson, Fennimore, Grant (Betty) Loy, Monfort, Rosalie (James) Kretchman, Fennimore and Abraham (Louise) Loy, Wesley Chapel, FL; a brother-in-law, John (Judy) Meir; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents, Ole and Polly Loy and her mother and father-in-law, LeRoy and Lela (Richardson) Meir.

Marilyn J. Meister

Marilyn J. Meister, age 69, of Patch Grove, died peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, December 14, 2009. She was born on May 27, 1940 in Racine, WI, the daughter of Frank Anthony and Johanna Theresa (Holler) Scholzen. On May 27, 1961, she was united in marriage to Bernard J. Meister at Holy Name Parish in Racine, WI. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2004. Marilyn was a beautiful homemaker, reliable school bus driver, loving Grandmother, and caring, lifelong friend. She enjoyed 28 years as a school bus driver at West Grant/River Ridge. Hobbies included grandchildren, various collections (especially angels), and writing for the Grant Herald Independent. She had a ready smile for everyone.

Marilyn was a devout Catholic and enjoyed being a member of both St. Marys and St. Johns Parishes. She was active in her Church and Community as a member of: Catholic Daughters of America St. Teresa Court # 1006; Council of Catholic Women (served as Grant Deanery President); West Grant Lioness Club; and American Legion Auxiliary Grey-Wachter Murphy #229 (she held all offices for the Legion at both local and county levels). Marilyn led the Rosary before Mass and was a Prayer Partner to students at St. Marys School.

Marilyn is survived by seven children: Bernard John (Darlene), Peculiar, MO; Laurie Jean Foege, Madison; David (Danielle) Meister, Darlington; Libbey (Marcos) Ortiz Meister, Madison; Christopher (Kim) Meister, Cambridge; Robert (Heidi) Meister, St. Peters, MO; and William (Michelle) Meister, Sun Prairie; 14 grandchildren: Briana; Max Foege; Johanna Regina, Jared, Judith, and Josie; Emilio, Rafael, and Marilyn Anastacia; Samantha and Cassandra; Alan and Anne; Kristianna; brother, Francis Scholzen, Racine; in-laws; nieces; nephews; cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard; her youngest son, Frank Lawrence; brothers, Gerald and Richard; her sister, Elizabeth Catherine and her dog, Sydney.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2009, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father Bart Timmerman officiating. Burial was held in Union Nagle Cemetery, Town of Patch Grove. Visitation was from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16 with a Rosary Service at 2:30 and Womens Auxiliary Service at 2:50 and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Thursday all at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington assisted the family.

Frank Menne

Frank Minno Menne, age 79, of Platteville, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015, at St. Marys Hospital in Madison.

Frank was born on February 5, 1935 in Potosi Township, WI, the son of Edward & Florence (Fecht) Menne. He graduated from St. Andrew High School in 1953. Frank married Mary Jayne Bierman on April 10, 1956 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson. They farmed from 1956 to 1979 in Potosi; then owned and operated the Roadhouse in Tennyson from 1979 to 2000. Frank retired after many years from Lands End.

Minno always started his day making coffee for his doll. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and the Cubs. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Frank was a longtime board member of the Cenex Co-op in Lancaster.

Frank is survived by his wife, Jayne; five children, Janice (Dan) Kittoe, Anchorage, AK, Jeanine (Tom) Robbins, Potosi, Cindy (Rich) Koeller, Marshall, WI, Kris (Pat) Doyle, Hazel Green, Ted (Sandy) Menne, Muscoda; grandchildren, Kari Kittoe, Robynn (John) Richards, Rachel (Ross) Harrison, T.J. (Fianc Marissa Stewart) Robbins, Crystin Robbins, Dan Koeller, Alex Koeller, Katie Doyle, Evan Doyle, Ross Doyle, Will Doyle, Kyle Menne & Kassee (Damian) Janisch; great-grandchildren, Ella & Cora Richards, Xzavier Janisch and baby Kittoe-Harrison due on January 17; a brother, Cyril Menne, Potosi; sisters, Mary Zenz, Bloomington, and Ann (Phil) Leek, Homosassa, FL; brother-in-law, Nick (Marlene) Bierman, Stoughton; sister-in-law, Doris (Bob) Doerring, Lancaster, Madonna Ashbrook, Schaumburg, IL, and Sharon Bierman, Potosi; and many nieces & nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson, with Fr. Richard Leffler officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends caledl from 4:30 p.m. until the time of mass Wednesday at the church. Pearl H. Menne

Pearl H. Menne, age 71, of Tennyson, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on July 15, 1937, the daughter of Maynard and Irene (Slaats) Pluemer in Tennyson. Pearl graduated from St. Andrew High School in Tennyson in 1955. She was united in marriage to Cyril Menne on August 7, 1956 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson. Together they resided in Tennyson and raised six children. Pearl was an active member of St. Andrew including CCW and numerous other volunteer services. She liked to quilt, play cards, enjoyed making barbeque and caramel dumplings for her family.

Pearl is survived by her husband, Cyril, Tennyson; five children: Connie (Bob) Brady, Renee Menne, Kevin (Rhonda) Menne and Karla (Chuch) Oyen all of Potosi and Kim (Allen) Kammerude, Dubuque; 11 grandchildren: Rick, Cody, Cole and Cy Menne; Josh, Teresa and Keith Oyen; Krista and Emily Langkamp; and Carley and Denver Kammerude; one great-grandson, Lucas Oyen; two step-grandchildren, Bobby and James Brady; one step-great-grandson, James Brady, Jr.; four sisters: Darlene Brown, Ripon, Glendoris (Eldon) Lynch, Platteville, Janet (Don) Schmitt, Sherrill, IA and Pat (Jim) Loeffelholz, Cuba City; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Beth; a brother, Dennis Pluemer and a sister, Estelle Schroeder.

Rosalia T. Menne

Rosalia Rosie T. Menne, age 95, formerly of Potosi, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Orchard Manor in rural Lancaster. She was born on October 22, 1913 in Jamestown Township, WI the daughter of Peter and Anna (Wiegman) Wiederholt. Rosalia married Leo Menne on February 23, 1949 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1976. Together they farmed for many years near Potosi. Rosalia was a member of St. Andrew Thomas Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society. She also volunteered in many of the church activities. Rosalia was also was a member of the Happy Quilters Club in Potosi and enjoyed gardening.

Rosalia is survived by her daughter, Rita (John) Simonsen, Pardeeville; one sister, Sister Leota Wiederholt, Milwaukee; one brother, Leonard Wiederholt, Dubuque; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; a son and daughter in infancy; two brothers, Hilary and Cletus Wiederholt and two sisters, Sister Ann Petrine and Germaine Loeffelholz.

Joseph C. Meoska

Joseph C.Joe Meoska, age 85, died peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2013. He was born on October 1, 1927, in Potosi, WI, to Albert and Leona (nee Ulbrich) Meoska.

Joe graduated from Bloomington High School in 1944 and spent his life farming in the area. In 1958, he received the Grant County Outstanding Young Farmer Award. He was an active member of Saint Marys Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of the parish, and the Southwest Vocations Club. With his wife, Hazel, he was involved in the Blakes Prairie 4-H Club as club and project leader. For many years he was a board member of the Blakes Prairie Fair Association. In 1967, Joe was selected to participate in a United Nations People-to-People tour to the Ukraine, Russia and several European nations; and the tour was one of his favorite memories.

Joe also had special interest in and dedication to the missionary efforts of Fr. Paul Fagan in Tanzania, collecting clothing, medical equipment and other supplies for many years. In his retirement, he continued his lifelong interest in woodworking, building and repairing furniture for family and friends. He also enjoyed volunteering at the local food pantry.

Joe is deeply loved and will be missed by his wife of 65 years, Hazel (nee Morovits), to whom he was united in marriage on February 7, 1948, at Saint Marys Catholic Church, Bloomington; by his children, David (Ione) Meoska, of Bagley, Tom Meoska, of Hillpoint, Janet (Dan) Joyce, of Mazomanie, Fr. John Meoska OSB, Collegeville, MN, and Kathy (Noel) Stanton, of Madison. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Michelle (Tom) McGlynn, Nicole (Joe) Hechimovich, Dyan (Dan) McLaughlin, Charlie (Brittany) Meoska, Patty Meoska, Dave (Amber) Joyce, Jenny (Mike) Smith, and Matt (Amy Wanek) Joyce; his great grandchildren: Jacob McGlynn; Lauren, Jerry and Riley McLaughlin; Gordon Van Kleek; Lincoln and Arabella Smith; and August Joyce; his step-brother, John (Catherine) Schmit and step-sister, Clara (Dick) Weir; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Leona (Schmit) Meoska, his step-father, Edward Schmit, his sister Ernestine Walsh; and his step-sisters Margaret, Genevieve and Bernadette Schmit, and Elsie Kranik; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meoska as the celebrant and Father John Meinholz as principle concelebrant. Burial was in St. Marys Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation was held on Friday, February 8, 2013, from 4 8 PM at St. Marys Catholic Church, 535 Congress Street, Bloomington; with a Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. Family and friends also called on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Ambrose G. Mergen

Ambrose G. Mergen, age 77, of Bloomington, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on March 24, 1934, in Bloomington, the son of Mike and Lena (Moris) Mergen. Ambrose attended St. Marys Catholic School and Bloomington High School. On June 7, 1954, he was united in marriage to Barbara Barr at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. Ambrose farmed all of his life and operated a trucking business for a short time. Ambrose enjoyed cooking and baking, especially his prize winning pies. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending cattle shows, going to Mas Bakery, and following his grandchildrens sporting events. Ambrose was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington, the Holy Name Society, the Blakes Prairie Fair Board and supported the FFA and 4-H programs.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Mergen, Bloomington; their six children: Susan (Robert) Bernhardt, Cassville; Steve (friend Julie Mumm) Mergen, Glen Haven; Terry (Jean) Mergen, Bloomington; Christine (Edward) Laufenberg, Mt. Hope; Tamie (Tom) Hoffman, Bloomington; Pam (Charles) Frank, Hazel Green; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way; his sister and brothers: Herbert (Betty) Mergen, Bloomington; Joe (Verna) Mergen, Cassville; Bernadette (Robert) Parkins, Bloomington; Michael (Janet) Mergen, Platteville; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Ambrose was preceded in death by an infant son, a brother, John William, a sister, Rosemary Elskamp, father-in-law, Frank Barr and mother-in-law, Elva (Noble) Barr.

Betty Mergen

Betty Lou Mergen, age 83, of Bloomington, passed away very unexpectedly on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at the Gunderson Health Center in Lacrosse. She was born on September 2, 1931, the fifth daughter of Sidney and Lena (Adrian) Myers. Betty attended the Flat Rock Grade School near the family farm in rural Cassville. After graduating Cassville High school, she pursued a teaching degree at University of Wisconsin - Platteville. During that time, she met Herbert Mergen who she married on October 24, 1953. After raising her family, Betty bravely returned to college at the age of 50 and completed her teaching degree. She loved working with children, readily sharing her special gifts with students and her peers, making an indelible mark on the River Ridge School District during her 20 years of employment there. Her passion for teaching was surpassed only by her love for her children and grandchildren. In her retirement she became an honorary assistant coach for the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. Betty loved life and lived her faith, freely participating in church groups and activities at both St. John's Parish in Patch Grove and at St. Mary's in Bloomington.

Betty is survived by her husband, Herbert and their children: Curt (Sandi) Mergen; Lancaster; Melanie (Tim) Novak, Jefferson; Randy (Patti) Mergen, Deerfield; Richard Mergen, St. Louis, MO; Chris Mergen, Mount Horeb. She will be dearly missed by her seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters: Lenice in infancy, Geraldine (Robert) Klauer, Inez (Walter) Joyce, and Lois (Arnold) Byrne.

Donald Metcalf

Donald J. Metcalf, age 82, of Cassville, died on Monday, June 15, 2015, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. He was born on September 19, 1932, in Glen Haven Township, the son of Allen and Marie (Vogt) Metcalf. Donald attended grade school at St. Mary's and the Brick School in Glen Haven Township. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1950. On September 10, 1957, Donald was united in marriage to Deloris A. Wieland at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Donald served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from May 1953 to May 1955. After returning from the Army he farmed the family farm until December 2000 when he retired and moved to Cassville. During corn picking season, Donald worked at Pride, Northrup King, and Golden Harvest from 1960 to 2004. He was also a substitute janitor at the Cassville Schools from 1999 to 2014. Donald worked at Stonefield Village for three seasons. He enjoyed his flower garden and took pride in his lawn. Donald loved playing cards, especially Euchre. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington for 54 years.

Survivors include his loving wife, Deloris Metcalf, Cassville; his children: Bruce (Amy) Metcalf, Winnsboro, TX; Cindy Metcalf, Platteville; three grandchildren, Charles (Heather) Metcalf, Fulton, IL; Matthew (fianc Nikki Arata) Metcalf, Menomonee Falls; Mikayla Metcalf, Winnsboro, TX; and two nieces.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Bradley; a brother-in-law, Walter Bradley; and a granddaughter, Jodi Ann Metcalf.

Marie C. Metcalf

Mary V. Metcalfe

Mary V. Metcalfe, age 88, of Bloomington, died on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Prairie Maison nursing home in Prairie du Chien. Mary was born on July 5, 1921, in Glen Haven Township, the second daughter of Clyde and Viola (Kuenster) Orr. She married Robert J. Metcalfe on February 17, 1942. Bob served in the United States Navy as a ships medic as war was raging in Europe and in the Pacific. He was later stationed at St. Albans Hospital in New York. In 1947, they purchased the Hoskins funeral home and furniture store in Bloomington. In the years following, with the help of his friend and partner, Dale Kuenster, additional funeral homes in Cassville, Lancaster, and Potosi were purchased and became Metcalfe-Kuenster Funeral Homes. Mary was a member and volunteer at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. She also volunteered at St. Marys School. She was an energetic presence in the community. Her favorite activities were traveling with Bob, golfing at the Prairie du Chien Country Club, bowling, quilting, knitting and boating with family and friends on the Mississippi River. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Steve) Derene, Madison and a son, Thomas (Peggy) Metcalfe, Eau Claire; her loving grandchildren: Kelli Dauber, Erik (Wendi) Knodle, Jennifer Metcalfe, Casey Metcalfe, Carly Metcalfe, Michael Derene and Nick Derene; and great-grandchildren: McKenzie, Sydney, Emily, Austin and Taylor.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1993, two daughters, Christy Lynn in infancy and Virginia Knodle, and her beloved sister, Helen (Allen) DiVall.

Neva Meyer

Neva I. Meyer, age 88, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Morning Side Assisted Living. She was born on April 20, 1928, in Pontiac, IL, the daughter of Henry and Hazel (Smith) Berlett. On July 19, 1945, Neva was united in marriage to Raymond H. Smith in Washington, IL. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1994. She was employed as a nurse's aide at Lancaster Memorial Hospital for twenty-five years. On October 9, 1995, she was united in marriage to Bob Meyer. He preceded her in death in September of 2004. Neva was a member of the Bethlehem E&R Church, Church Council, was a Sunday school teacher, Brownie Troop Leader and member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed watching movies and shopping.

Survivors include her two daughters: Jeanne (Butch) Griswold; Patsy (Max) Needham; five grandchildren: Christine (Dave) Hahn; Kelly (Larry) Foyt; Max (Kari) Needham; Jennifer (Dave) Bussan; Brad (Lisa) Griswold; 12 great-grandchildren: Spencer and Blake Hahn; Adam, Brody, Carson, and Payton Griswold; Zach and Riley Foyt; Aidyn Bussan; Finley, Anistyn, and Max IV Needham; her siblings: Tom Berlett; Phyllis Schmidt; Dorothy Kline; Norma Livingood; four sisters-in-law: Mert Berlett; Gloria Berlett; Kathyrn Smith; and Florence Berger.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Neva was preceded in death by a son, Michael Smith; her siblings: Ray, Jim, Bill, and Jerry Berlett; Irene Bauer; Anna Brubaker.

Alphonse J. Michel

Alphonse J. Mick Michel, age 78, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at his residence. He was born on July 19, 1936, in Eastman, the son of Joseph and Veronica (Dohse) Michel. Mick enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict serving on the U.S.S. Wrangel, which was an ammunitions carrier. On August 22, 1959, he married Beverly J. Irish in Dubuque, IA. He was employed for over forty-three and one half years as a machinist at Unique Balance in Dubuque, IA, retiring in 2000. Mick enjoyed fishing, yard work, walking with his dogs, and visiting with his neighbors. He was a member of the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Shanna (Chester Murry) Schleicher; six grandchildren: Robin, Brooke, Olivia, Braylon Schleicher, Trever and Brandy Murry; two sisters-in-law: Katherine and June Michel; and many members of the Irish family.

Mick was preceded in death by two brothers, Gale and Robert.

Myron L. Miedaner, age 98, of Platteville, formerly of Green Bay, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at his home in Platteville. He was born on March 30, 1915, in Schofield, WI, the son of Michael and Alma (Sternberg) Miedaner. Myron was united in marriage to Alice Fulwiler on October 16, 1939, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. He served his country in the United States Navy from June 25, 1944 until his honorable discharge on January 26, 1946. Myron was employed with A&P as a butcher for several years. He loved to garden and to play cards, especially Bridge. Myron also enjoyed playing Cribbage with his friends from the Senior Center.

Survivors include his children: Terrell Miedaner, Cochise, AZ; Dan Miedaner, Tucson, AZ; Jodi and Jim Tomlinson, Tucson, AZ; Carolyn Sue and Dennis Martin, Platteville; Mark and Debra Ann Miedaner, Oshkosh; Penelope Miedaner, Manitowoc; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Donald and Micchi Miedaner, New York; Jack and Mona Miedaner, Florida; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Myron was preceded in death by his wife, Alice and two brothers and four sisters.

Memorial services were held on Monday, April 29, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Platteville with Sister Agnes officiating. Edna F. Miles

Edna F. Miles, age 74, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on February 1, 1939, the daughter of Charles and Nell (Meyers) Schleicher. On May 12, 1956, she was united in marriage to Jesse Miles. After their marriage, Edna enjoyed raising her family. In later years, she worked at Nells Caf, Kickapoo Gas Station, Dugout Supper Club, Fenmore Hills Supper Club, Days Rexall Drug and the Lancaster Country Club. Edna was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church. She enjoyed painting, gardening, and loved being with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse; children: Rick (Tina Richter), Steven, Keven, Douglas, Darrin, and Lori (Wayne) Vincent; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Evelyn Skip Knapp and Helen (Dallas) Croft; sister-in-law, Alma Schleicher; many nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Ryan Vincent; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Miles; her brothers: Samuel (Margaret), John and Fred; her sister, Hazel (Ken) Morsehead; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Knapp.

Memorial services were on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church at 12:00 noon with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Jesse Miles

Jesse L. Miles, age 77, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. He was born on October 11, 1936, in Slabtown, the son of Paul and Jeannette (Hickin) Miles. Jesse graduated from Lancaster High School in 1954. On May 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Edna Schleicher. Jesse was employed at Dubuque John Deere for thirty years. During his retirement, Jesse traveled all over as a coin dealer for fifty plus years. He enjoyed playing softball, golf, and bowling.

Survivors include his children: Rick (Tina Richter), Steven, Keven, Douglas, Darrin, and Lori (Wayne) Vincent; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ramona Reynolds and Janice (Joseph) Staskal; other relatives and many friends.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna; a grandson, Ryan Vincent; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Miles; a sister, Donna (Earl) Bradley and a brother-in-law, Hobart Reynolds.

Michael D. Miles

Michael D. Miles, age 50, of Lancaster, WI, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011, at his home, in the arms of his loving wife. Mike was born in Lancaster on December 13, 1960, the youngest son of nine children born to Stanley and Rosanna (Ertz) Miles.

Mike married the love of his life, Connie Oyen on April 17, 1982. For almost 30 years, they shared the love of farming together. The pride that Mike had in his farm was seen within his hard work, the hard work he taught his four children. Mike was a wonderful man with a gentle heart, and a smile that was contagious. We will miss his laughter and love. Mike loved the time he spent camping and the trips to Jamaica with family and friends.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Connie; sons, Brandon of Hazel Green and Philip (fiance Lyndsey) of Lancaster; daughters, Ashley (Mike) David of Potosi and Mallory of Lancaster; parents, Stanley & Rosanna of Lancaster; five brothers, David(Maria) of Blue River, Patrick (Diane) of Howards Grove, William (Pat), Kenny (Teri), and Ronnie (Carol), all of Lancaster; three sisters, Elaine (Jeff) Hartzell of Rock Springs, Theresa (Todd) Abing of Richland Center, and Mary Miles of Lancaster; father and mother in-law, Philip and Grace Oyen of Potosi; sister and brother in laws, Larry & LuAnn Fecht, Don & Lisa Oyen, Chuck & Karla Oyen, all of Potosi, David & Debbie Erie of Hillsboro, and Ron & Jane Harnage of Indy, IN; along with many nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by a Godson, Eric Miles, along with his maternal and paternal grandparents, Albert and Mildred Ertz, and Clarence and Lila Miles.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster, with Father William Seipp officiating. Visitation was from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, October 25, at St. Clement Catholic Church, and one hour prior to the mass at church on Wednesday. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery. Virginia Miles

Virginia Ann Miles, age 89, of Cassville, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. She was born September 8, 1927, the daughter of Henry J. Kovars and Mary L. "Rene" Standorf. She went to Pleasant Valley grade school and started high school in Muscoda. In 1941 she went to live with her mother, Rene and stepfather, Clyde Potter. In 1943, she went to St. Louis, MO, and in 1944 she returned to Wisconsin to live with her mom and stepfather. Virginia went to Madison, in 1945 and worked at the Naval base and waitressed at the Belmont Hotel and the Lawrence Cafe. On May 10, 1947, she married Ted Blum and they moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1950. In Chicago, Virginia was employed at the Bunny Candy Co. and was a waitress at Solick' s Restaurant and Tap. They divorced in 1954. While still living in Chicago, Virginia married Joseph Demes on March 5, 1955. They returned to Burton, Wisconsin in 1966. Joe died in 1967 and Virginia moved with their two children to Chaffee Hollow Road. She worked at an optical factory in Platteville and later Rapid Die and Molding Company in Cassville until 1972. Virginia married Keith F. Miles August 15, 1969. They farmed until his death in 2007. Virginia then retired with he r dog, Annie and cats, Gypy and Boo to Lenz Lane, Cassville in 2008. Virginia was known for her awesome baking and cooking skills. She loved traveling, especially road trips. Virginia was a crafter and did ceramics. She enjoyed reading westerns, doing puzzles, playing cards, working outdoors and listening to country and western music. Virginia especially enjoyed spending time with her family. All her generations of grandchildren were very dear to her. She loved spoiling them with treats and hugs and kisses.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a daughter Bonnie L. Brinkman, stepson, Tim "Smiley" Miles, grandson, Joe Lord and three great-grandchildren, her siblings: Robert Kovars, Henry O. Kovars, John Kovars, Robert (Nancy) Potter, Lavonne Kovars Fortner, Rosalie Kovars Post, Jean Potter Buss; Brothers- in-law: Russell Hixson and Warren Buss and three infant Kovars brothers.

Virginia is survived by her children: Cassinda (Charles) Pitzen and Lucas (Robin) Demes; stepchildren: John (Kathy) Miles, Jackie Yoose, Cindy (Pat) Ley, all of Cassville and Mitch Miles, IA; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and 8 step-great grandchildren; her siblings: Lavetta Kovars Hixson, Jack (Millie) Kovars , Alvin (Norlinda) Kovars, Rollin (Kathy) Kovars, Joseph (Elaine) Kovars, Mary Kovars (Billy) Culligan , Sam Kovars, Wanda Potter Gansemer; a sister-in-law, Janice (Bob) Kovars; many nieces and nephews.

Following Virginia's wishes, there was no visitation or funeral. Graveside services were held on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township, with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. A Celebration of Life followed burial at the Beetown Town Hall, Beetown. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville is entrusted with services.

George J. "Jr" Miller

George J. Jr Miller, age 87, of Bagley, died on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. He was born on August 3, 1924, in Wyalusing Township, the son of George and Velva (Dull) Miller. Jr was united in marriage to Janice J. Kirschbaum on June 11, 1945, at St. Johns Catholic Church in Patch Grove. Jr began his employment at the Brodtville Creamery. He and Janice moved to Savannah, IL, and he was employed at the Armory. Jr also worked at Dubuque Packing Company, farmed and later owned and operated the Dew Drop Inn for seventeen years. In 1990, they retired and moved to Bagley. Jr enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his children: Georgia Rieck, Prairie du Chien; Brenda (Gene) Loding, Ashland; Susan Ruhr, Prairie du Chien; Stephanie (Terry) Buffington, Bagley; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; one sister-in-law, Phyllis (Kenny) Tichenor, Prairie du Chien; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Jr was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; a daughter, Cheryl (Robert) Haberichter and two sons-in-law, Bruce Rieck and Terry Clark.

Janice J. Miller

Janice J. Miller, age 82, of Bagley, died on Friday, September 4, 2009, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. She was born on June 1, 1927, in Cassville, the daughter of Andrew and Elenora (Brinkman) Kirschbaum. She married George Jr Miller on June 11, 1945, at St. Johns Catholic Church in Patch Grove. Janice was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and farmed with her husband. Later they owned and operated the Dew Drop Inn for seventeen years. In 1990 they retired and moved to Bagley.

Survivors include her husband, Jr Miller, Bagley; four daughters: Georgia (Bruce) Rieck, Prairie du Chien; Brenda (Gene) Loding, Ashland; Susan Ruhr, Prairie du Chien; Stephanie (Terry) Buffington, Bagley; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis (Kenny) Tichenor, Prairie du Chien; other relatives and many friends.

Bradley D. Millin, age 24, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013.

Irma M. Millin

Irma M. Millin, age 90, of Lancaster, went to meet her Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Morningside Assisted Living in Lancaster. She was born on December 5, 1919, in Glen Haven, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Hoffman) Hess. On January 13, 1944, Irma was united in marriage to Donald Y. Millin in Sioux Falls, SD. Irma farmed with her husband for several years before moving to Lancaster in 1955. She worked as a housekeeper for many families and professional businesses in Lancaster for many years. She also worked for the Lancaster Memorial Hospital and Orchard Manor for fifteen years. Irma strived to help provide for her family to the best of her ability. She enjoyed doing various activities, including volunteering at News and Views, quilting, visiting friends, bowling in her younger years, and enjoying a good fish fry on Friday nights. Irma greatly enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith (James) Burbach, Kieler; her son, Michael D. Millin, Thornton, CO; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Millin, Mountain Top, PA; eight grandchildren: Lisa (Jeff) Kurt, Farley, IA; Kim (Mike) Kraus, Cuba City; Angie Burbach, Platteville; Sandy (Eric) Small, Dubuque, IA; Christopher (Jen) Teer, New Freedom, PA; Shanda (Bobby) Opsitos, Jr., Felton, PA; Randi (Seth) Robinson, Henryville, PA; Jazmine Millin, Boulder, CO; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Mildred Dietrich, Cassville; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hess, Lancaster and Phyllis Millin, Tomah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Donald; a son, Randy, and her siblings, Arthur Hess, Armella Laufenberg, two nephews, six brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.

Peggy A. (Pagel) Minch

Peggy A. (Pagel) Minch, age 58, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on May 6, 1953, in Lancaster, the daughter of Herbert and Lucille (Peirce) Pagel. Peggy graduated from Lancaster High School in 1971. She was employed as a factory worker for several years. Peggy was a member of the Bethlehem E&R Church and the Bloomington Sportsmans Club. She was an excellent marksman and loved sewing and crocheting. Peggy enjoyed making Divinity and chocolate fudge during the holidays. She was a good, caring person. Peggy always had a smile on her face and had the ability to get along with anyone she met.

Survivors include her brother, Gary (Sharon) Pagel, Lancaster, and her special friend, Donald Donnie Hampton, Lancaster.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents.

Lucille M. Klein Mindham

Lucille M. Klein Mindham, age 78, of Lancaster, died on Thursday, September 3, 2009, at her home in rural Lancaster. She was born on April 29, 1931, in Platteville, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Hying) Lane. She attended school at Dubuque, Iowa. On August 6, 1973, Lucille was united in marriage to Fred J. Mindham. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and bead crafting.

Survivors include her children: Thomas (Janet) Klein, Bagley; Daniel (Linda) Klein, McGregor, IA; Karen Cooley, Patch Grove; Sharon (Nick) Sweeny, Patch Grove; Larry Klein, Bagley; Kathleen (Ricky) Clark, Prairie du Chien; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Schultz, Prairie du Chien.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Fred Mindham, and a brother, Jim Lane and a sister, Catherine Peterson.

Mary Mink

Mary Lois (Meyers) Mink, age 84 of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Patch Grove, was given her angel wings on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Prairie Maison Nursing Home. Mary was born on May 23, 1930 in Underwood, North Dakota, to Henry and Iva (Hinch) Meyers. The family moved to Beetown, Wisconsin in 1937.

Mary attended Beetown grade school and Lancaster High School, graduating in 1947. It was at Whitmans Caf in November of 1946 that she met the handsome U.S. Marine, Donald Walter Mink, whom she married on July 26, 1947 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. They lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin until 1956 when they moved to Patch Grove. Mary was the bookkeeper for her husbands business, Don Mink Plumbing & Heating for 30 years.

In addition to raising their 5 children and working in the business, Mary was very active in the community as a 4-H leader, a member of the Patch Grove United Methodist Church, the Grant County Homemakers, the Fort Crawford Chapter of the D.A.R., the Royal Neighbors, and Rebekah Lodge No. 1007.

Mary was a woman of faith and the heart of the Mink family. She was a wonderful cook and is best known for her Cinnamon Knot Rolls. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with family and friends. Mary was kind, loving and full of grace. She sincerely and gently cared for and accepted others. Her home was welcoming and immaculate and her cookie jar was never empty.

She is survived by her children, Patricia (Phil) Kirschbaum of Patch Grove; James (Deb) Mink of Prairie du Chien; Cynthia (Lawrence) Busch of Lancaster; Jeffrey (Lisa) Mink of Prairie du Chien and Kim (John) Curtis of Patch Grove; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one brother, Harold Meyers of San Antonio, Texas, members of the Mink family, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald in 2006; a great-grandson, William Mink; a daughter-in-law, Brenda (Mumm) Mink; a brother, Charles (Ann) Meyers and a sister-in-law, Lucille Meyers.

Mary E. Misky

Mary E. Misky, age 91, formerly of Platteville, died onTuesday, January 22, 2008 at Ingleside Nursing Home in Mt. Horeb. She was born on February 17, 1916 in Dodgeville, the daughter of Carl and Mary Ann (Thies) Rock. Mary married Ray C. Misky on October 2, 1939 Dodgeville. Ray and Mary had just celebrated their 60^th wedding anniversary prior to Rays death in 1999.

Mary served for 30 years as the Treasurer/Finance Director for the City of Platteville. For most of those years, she was the only elected female official in the City of Platteville. She was elected first in 1948 and continued to serve until her retirement in 1978. Prior to her election in 1948, she worked for the A & P Food Store and with the Kroger Company with her husband. Her first job after graduating from Dodgeville High School was in the Knutson Law Office in Dodgeville.

She was a faithful member of St. Marys Catholic Church, regularly attending daily Mass. For many years she baked for others and was selected several years ago in the Wisconsin State Journal as Someone Who Made A Difference for her efforts at calling on shut-ins.

Mary is survived by a son, Chuck Misky of Mt. Horeb; four grandchildren: Steve (Emily) Misky of Cuba City; Greg (Caren) Misky of Denver, CO; David (Lisa) Misky, Milwaukee and Anne Misky of Middleton. In addition to her grandchildren, she is survived by five great-grandchildren: Jaime and Anna Misky of Milwaukee, Elizabeth and Jack Misky of Cuba City and Ava Pauline Misky of Denver. She is further survived by her sister Margaret Rock of Dodgeville; her sister-in-law, Patricia Rock and brother-in-law, Ralph Evans both of Dodgeville as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her parents; brothers, Tony, Jack and Bob; sister, Joanne; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Rock and Romelle Rock and daughter-in-law, Pauline Misky.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Platteville with Msgr. Charles Schluter officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Visitation was held on Friday, January 25 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville with a Parish Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. Friends were also welcomed from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. A Mary E. Misky Memorial Fund has been established.

William Mitchell

William F. "Bill" Mitchell, age 101 of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. He was born November 22, 1914 in Los Angeles, California, the son of William and Jessie (Wilson) Mitchell. William married Caroline E. Lutz and together they farmed in the Lancaster area. He later built pole buildings for David Lumber Company of Potosi. William enjoyed reading, woodworking, playing cards, and making many, many comforters for family and friends. He dearly loved his family, and keeping up with their activities.

Surviving is a daughter Darlene (Richard) Hood; a son Daniel (Marcia) Mitchell, both of Lancaster, three grandchildren: Brian (Bonnie) Hood; Brad (Heidi Loy) Hood; Jeni (Jared) Kriz; five great-grandchildren: Denver, Jerrica, and Carmen Hood; Dezirae Hood, Andrew Kriz; three brothers: Harvey Mitchell; Richard (Pat) Mitchell; Clifford Mitchell; one sister: Nancy (Ed) Denzin; many nephews and nieces.

William was preceded in death by his loving wife Caroline on August 11, 1994, an infant daughter Connie; three brothers: Alan, Don, and Faye Mitchell; and one sister, Doris.

James E. Mitsch

James E. Mitsch, age 75, of Bagley, died on Sunday, January 30, 2010, at his residence. He was born on May 24, 1935, in Chicago, the son of James and Dorothy (Glasbrenner) Mitsch. James attended school in Chicago and was employed with the union as a floor coverer for forty-fives years. In 1973, James moved to Bagley. He was an avid Chicago Bear and Cubs fan and loved reading, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his children: Tom (Beth ) Mitsch, McHenry, IL; Susan (James) Burke, Lake Geneva, WI; James (significant other, Dawn) Mitsch, McHenry, IL; Cindy (Rod) Rodriguez, Lindenhurst, IL; his step-children: John Dale (Debbie) Harris, Jr., Des Plaines; Theresa (John) Eisenminger, Darien; Matthew (Michelle) Harris, Garnavillo, IA; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Joyce Hahnlein, McHenry, IL.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Mitsch.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family.

Martha A. Mitsch

Martha A. Mitsch, age 70, of Bagley, died on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien. She was born on March 3, 1938, in Beloit, the daughter of Gene and Laura (Wright) Salisburg. Martha was employed at the Bagley Hotel, Bagley. In 1979, she was united in marriage to James E. Mitsch in Bagley. Martha enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She liked to play the slot machines in her spare time.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by a daughter, Cyndy Bohringer, a grandson, Josiah Bohringer and a sister, Shirley Schmuck.

Survivors include her husband, James Mitsch, Bagley; her children: John Dale (Debbie) Harris, Jr., Des Plaines; Theresa (John) Eisenminger, Darien; Matthew (Michelle) Harris, Garnavello, IA; six grandchildren; brother and sisters: Richard (Sheila) Salisburg, Ohio; Nancy (Gary) Smith, Spencer; Janet (Don) Hubka, Clinton.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 29, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends called on Monday, September 29, 2008, at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington from 12:00 p.m. until time of services.
